UK Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce (UKTNCC) Annual Business Meeting 2016!

The UKTNCC in association with British South India Council of Commerce (BSICC) successfully organised its 3rd annual business event “The UK Tamil Nadu Puducherry Business Meet” on the 14th April 2016 at UK Parliament.

The business meet was chaired by BSICC/UKTNCC Patron,Mr Virendra Sharma MP(Southall, UK) at Committee room 10. The event was oversubscribed showing the content of the event and due to room restrictions 160 attended the event. The room was packed with influential and successful delegates from various sectors across the continents.

The UKTNCC team took this opportunity to wish all delegates a prosperous Tamil New Year which also happened to fall on the same day. The event formally was kick started by Siv Matchendran, Director of UKTNCC who gave an overview of the aims of BSICC and UKTNCC.


Virendra Sharma Ji spoke next highlighting the importance of the trade relations between both the countries and how his office is keen and ready to support such activities. He requested the attendees to maintain a minute silence to mourn the recent victims of the Kerala fireworks accident.

The other key guests who spoke about the importance and positive future trade relations between both India and UK were shadow chief secretary to the treasury - Seema Malhotra MP, MP Gerald Jones, Wales and Ramaswamy Balaji first secretary (Consular) of Indian High Commission,London. Collectively, they all
expressed their support and wishes to UKTNCC on this occasion.

The illustrious guest speakers of the day were

  • Dr. VA Shiva Ayyadurai, the inventor of EMAIL who spoke on 'The Ecosystem for Global Innovation'
  • Padmashree Arunachalam Muruganantham - Social Entrepreneur / featured as influential 100 in the world by the Times spoke on on 'Rural Innovation from Tamil Nadu to the World'.
  • Mike Nithavrianakis, former British Deputy High Commissioner on the opportunities presented by Tamil Nadu in various sectors

The delegates were inspired by the journey, success and painstaking efforts behind their success of the speakers and thoroughly benefitted by the participation. The delegates offered a standing ovation for Arunachalam Murguganatham’s contribution to eradicate rural poverty.

In the 2nd part of the event, various dignitaries both from India and the UK were felicitated by Virendra Sharma, MP Southall UK for their contribution to the Indo-UK trade relations and the community

The event was drawn to an end by Mr.Jacob Ravibalan BSICC's Vice Chairman who addressed the vote of thanks. He conveyed the apologies of both special guest Dr. Ponraj Vellaichamy (Scientist and Technical Advisor to the late Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam) and Sujit Nair, Chief Coordinator of the BSICC who wished the very best the UKTNCC team. He also thanked the sponsors ICICI bank.

The event came to an end at in the form of a “Networking Tea” hosted by the UKTNCC team at the Grand Café at the Parliament. The delegates were actively involved in exchanging ideas and business cards. The networking at the café proved to be another success leading from the event for all delegates who attended. The UKTNCC were actively collecting feedback from the attendees and speakers and 98% of them found it extremely resourceful and will participate again.

The event formally concluded as sit down dinner for high level delegates and to thanks the special guests at the popular “Cinnamon Club”, Westminster one of London’s top restaurants. The event was aimed strengthening business relationship and trust between all participants. The delegates all enjoyed the gourmet dishes served and were engaged in positive conversations. The UKTNCC team actively facilitated introductions between the delegates promoting networking and formally thanked the delegates for attending and making the event a grand success.

UK Tamilnadu Business Meet 2014

UK Tamilnadu Business Meet 2014 held at the British Parliament Building on the 8th of May 2014.

May 8th, 2014; London: Following the successful hosting of the UK South India Business Meet, UK Karnataka Business Meet, UK Kerala Business Meet and various other state Business Meets at the Houses of Parliament over the years, BSICC, in partnership with UKTNCC, organised the UK Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Business Meet 2014 on 8th May 2014 at Houses of Parliament, Westminster, London. This business meet was chaired by Mr Virendra Sharma MP( Southall, UK). The audience included representatives from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Members of House of Lords & House of Commons, representatives from other Indian states/ other countries and businessmen from India who are successful in UK. One of the notable attendees for the business meet was Mr.Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, who was also the Chief Guest of the day.

The event started with a formal welcome by BSICC Patron Mr.Virendra Sharma MP, Ealing Southall. This was followed by a brief overview of UK Tamil Nadu & Puducherry Business Meet by Mr.Jacob Ravibalan, BSICC Vice Chair for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Founder of UKTNCC. Mr.Bharat Joshi, British Deputy High Commissioner based in Chennai, spoke about the historical relationship which UK and Tamil Nadu. Following this, Mr. Hasmukh Vora, President of Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, based out of Chennai,offered his perspective of pursuing business activities in Tamil Nadu & Puducherry. Mr. Christie Cherian, who is the Chairman and Trustee of British Business Group, Chennai, spoke about how good an investment destination is Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Dr. R. Seetharaman who is the Group ChiefExecutive Officer of Doha Bank in Qatar gave a detailed talk about some of the Opportunities for UK residents and Global Tamilians in the Gulf. Mr.David Happy, who was till recently the Vice President EU Affairs for Samsung Electronics, spoke about India UK collaborations and how the UK is a hugely effective springboard into the rest of the EU-27 for Indian companies and twice as big as the USA and a wealthy region. Mr. Velou SingaraofUKTNCC spoke about various business opportunitiesin Puducherry for UK companies. Mrs Kamala Sekar who was till recently the Head of Export Finance at UKTI spoke about the channels of support from UK public sector and BSICC/ UKTNCC. UKTNCCFounder Director Mr. Sundar Subbiah offered the strategy and roadmap for UKTNCC. Co Founder / Director of UKTNCC Siv Matchendran thanked the chief guests and the delegates.

Mr. Karthik Durgaprasad Founder of UKTNCC gave more details about the business meet " The business meet was a huge success and we had participation of more than 150 delegates from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, United Kingdom and Middle East participating in the meet. Following the business meet, we are hopeful that few UK based companies will start exploring opportunities to invest in Tamil Nadu and Puducherrry.

UKTNCC Monthly Business Meeting June 2014

UKTNCC Limited a Business Association for the Business communities in UK & Tamil Nadu, India had arranged their monthly meeting at Metro Bank, near Holborn station on the 26th June between 6:30 to 8:30 PM.


The guests started arriving from 6:30 onwards at Central London on Thursday evening to attend the business meeting arranged by UKTNCC. The agenda was distributed to all the guests before the meeting. Mr. Siv Matchendran Co-Founder of UKTNCC welcomed the guests and the speakers to the monthly meeting of United Kingdom Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce. Siv introduced Dina Pinto of Metro Bank to the audience. Dina who is the Commercial Banking Manager of Metro Bank has arranged the meeting place for UKTNCC at the Metro Bank's head office: One Southampton Row, London, WC1B 5HA. Dina explained the audience the advantages of having an account at the Metro Bank.

 

Mr. Karthik Durgaprasad Co-Founder of UKTNCC invited speakers and also gave a short description about Mr. Harinder Singh and asked him to give a speech about how to raise capital for businesses in today's economic conditions. Karthik also introduced Aga to the guests.

How to raise capital?


Mr. Harinder Singh, Director of SME Finance gave a speech to the audience as “How to successfully raise capital for your business in today's economic conditions”. Many UKTNCC members & guests found it useful about his speech and raised many questions, for which Mr. Singh answered confidently.

Growth Vouchers programme

Aga Korfel explained the audience about how the present government's Growth Vouchers programme helps small businesses get strategic business advice on various aspects such as finance and cash flow recruiting and developing staff and making the most of digital technology. Aga also briefed the audience as how the businesses are randomly chosen to get a voucher of up to £2,000 to help finance strategic business advice. She later said the chances are about 80% when answering during the question & answer session.

Guests include London Anjappar restaurant franchise partner Mr. Jayandan, Asian Voice's Associate Editor and Indian Journalists' Asscociation Secratory Rupanjana Vivekanandan, Mrs Kamala Sekar who was till recently the Head of Export Finance at UKTI, Dosa Dosa Restaurant business partner Ezhil Suresh, many prominent UK Tamil Nadu based businessmen and members of UKTNCC.

Earlier in May this year UKTNCC along with BSICC conducted their yearly meeting at the Houses of Parliament building where chief guests included were Mr. Bharat Joshi British Deputy High Commissioner, Chennai and Dr. R. Seetharaman CEO of Doha Bank. UKTNCC's Co-Founder Jacob Ravibalan also invited the members & guests for the next yearly meet of BSICC that's on the 10th of July.

UK - Tamil Nadu & Puducherry - Business Meet 2013

British South Indian Chamber Commerce and World Tamil Organisation UK jointly launched the UK Tamilnadu Chamber of Commerce (UKTNCC) on 15th April in the British Parliament Buildings. The idea to launch such an organisation was conceived by few entrepreneurs a year ago, when they shared their experiences in entering Indian market as a British Company. Though there are many such organisations in UK, the founder members are first Generation Immigrated Entrepreneurs from Tamilnadu and Pondicherry. 

UKTNCC will be more of a Social Enterprise than a business promotion council. UKTNCC will focus mainly in promoting Bi-lateral trade and investments between UK and South India (Particularly Tamilnadu).

Moreover UKTNCC will be a launching pad for Entrepreneurs and Businesses who wish to enter the ever booming South Indian Market. Members and Individuals will be discussing on various policies which affects positively and Negatively, Opportunities, Market Entry Strategies etc. 

Mr. Virendra Sharma MP, President, Indo-British Chamber of Commerce presided for this Launch event. The guests list included many but not limited to representative's from Governmental and Non-Governmental Trade Promotion Organisations, Physicians, Philanthropists, Entrepreneurs, Engineers, Solicitors & Barristers, Chartered Accountants etc.., 

Jacob Ravibalan one amongst the Founder Members Welcomed the Guests, Lawrence Fredrick (Founder Member UKTNCC) discussed on the potentials and opportunities for British Businesses in Tamilnadu, as well presented the key investment requirements which Tamilnadu is looking for. Dr Manivarmane (Founder Member UKTNCC) unveiled the un-explored Investment potentials of Pondicherry (Pondicherry's strategic location benefits Tamilnadu to a greater extent, both the economies go hand in hand). Future Plans and Strategies of UKTNCC was explained by Sundar Subbiah (Founder Member UKTNCC). 

Mr.Roy Spencer (Global Lead, Travel & Tourism Consulting with in TCS London) Happily shared his experiences working with Tamilnadu its Highly qualified Human Resources, the Ways TATA Group is benefiting from these work force.

The guests included Ms Kamala Chandrasekar (Head of Finance - UKTI), Mr Aditya Vidyadhar Mittal, Mr.Philip Abraham (Vice-President, British South Indian Chamber of Commerce), Mr Prabakar Kaza (Managing Trustee, UK Telugu Association), Mr Thiruvasagam (President, British Tamil Trade Forum), Mr Kumar Kunthikanamata (President, Kannada Sanghama UK), Mr Sampath Kumar (President, London Sri Murugan Temple), Mr Venkatraman (CEO, SBI UK), Mr SV Arumugam (President, Confederation of Indian Textiles), Entrepreneur Mr Sampath Kumar. 

The Launch program was co-ordinated by Ramesh Kumar Balakrishnan (Founder Member UKTNCC) and Karthik Durgaprasad along with Somasundaram (Founder Members) organised this function.
